What Home Gym Equipment Do You Actually Use Every Week?
I’ve been slowly building my home gym and have started noticing that the equipment I use most isn’t necessarily the most expensive stuff. My adjustable dumbbells, bench, resistance bands, and pull-up bar get used regularly, while a few other purchases are sitting untouched. I’d love to hear from other home-gym people in the USA—what equipment do you genuinely use every week, and which purchase turned out to be unnecessary?

Adjustable dumbbells. Pretty much every workout.

My bench gets used constantly. I honestly underestimated how useful a good adjustable bench would be.

For me it’s the power rack. Squats, bench press, overhead press, pull-ups—I use it for almost everything.

Resistance bands are probably my most underrated equipment. They take almost no space and I use them for warm-ups, mobility work, and accessory exercises.

I use my treadmill a lot during the colder months, but during summer I usually run outside instead.

A cable machine has been one of my best purchases. It gives me so many options for back, shoulders, arms, and even some lower-body exercises without needing several separate machines.

I’m seeing a pretty common theme here—simple equipment seems to get much more use than the expensive stuff. I’m definitely going to prioritize versatility and frequency of use before buying anything else.

I have a small setup in my garage with adjustable dumbbells, a foldable bench, kettlebells, bands, and a pull-up bar. Nothing fancy, but I can train my entire body with it and I don’t have to wait for equipment like I did at my commercial gym.

I bought a rowing machine because everyone online made it sound like a must-have. It’s actually a great piece of equipment, but I barely use it. Meanwhile, my $30 resistance bands somehow get used three or four times a week. Definitely taught me that “best equipment” depends on the person.
