I've been trying to follow a proper meal plan for a while, but I always seem to lose consistency after a few days. I start with healthy meals and everything goes well, but then work gets busy, I get hungry, or I just get bored of eating the same foods. I've tried strict diets before, but I usually end up giving up completely.
If you've struggled with this, what worked better for you—following a strict meal plan or keeping your meals flexible while still tracking your overall calories and nutrition?
Anyone else struggle to stick to a meal plan consistently?
Re: Anyone else struggle to stick to a meal plan consistently?
I switched to a flexible meal plan and it made a huge difference. I still focus on protein and healthy foods, but I don't stress if I have a meal that isn't perfect.

I'd definitely go with flexibility. A strict plan is hard to maintain for months.

Honestly, I think meal prep is the biggest game changer. If I already have my meals ready, I'm much less likely to order something unhealthy when I'm tired or busy.

I made the mistake of completely cutting out foods I enjoyed. Ended up craving them even more.

The biggest thing that helped me was creating 3 or 4 simple breakfast and lunch options that I could rotate throughout the week. It keeps things easy without making every day feel exactly the same.

If your goal is weight loss, I'd focus more on staying in a calorie deficit consistently rather than trying to follow a perfect meal plan. You don't need to eat the exact same foods every day to make progress.

Been there! The hardest part is staying consistent when motivation disappears. Once meal planning became part of my routine, it started feeling much easier.

I'd recommend planning your meals around your lifestyle instead of forcing your lifestyle around your diet. Keep some easy options ready for busy days, have a few meals you genuinely enjoy, and leave room for flexibility. That's what helped me stick with my plan long term.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I think my biggest mistake was trying to follow a plan that was too strict. I'm going to try keeping my meals flexible while preparing a few healthy options in advance. Hopefully, that will make it easier to stay consistent.
