Anyone else realize real progress takes way longer than social media makes it seem?
Anyone else realize real progress takes way longer than social media makes it seem?
I used to think I'd look completely different after a few months because that's what you see all over Instagram and TikTok. Reality hit pretty quick.
It's been a much slower process for me, but I'm definitely stronger, leaner, and making steady progress. Looking back at old pictures, I can actually see the difference even if it doesn't happen overnight.
Anybody else feel like social media sets some pretty unrealistic expectations? How long did it take before you looked in the mirror and thought, Yeah, all this work is finally paying off?

Man, social media had me thinking I'd be shredded in 12 weeks too. Looking back, it took me almost a year before people actually started noticing.

Same here. The biggest changes happened after I stopped checking the mirror every day and just stayed consistent.

Most of those crazy transformations leave out years of lifting. They just show the last few months because that's what gets clicks.

For me it wasn't the mirror that kept me going, it was adding weight to the bar. The physique caught up later.

I didn't notice much until I compared pictures from about 8 months apart. Day to day you can't really see it.

Appreciate all the replies, guys. Sounds like I need to stop comparing my progress to social media and just focus on putting together more consistent months.

That's the mindset. Most people quit right before the changes start becoming obvious.

I muted a bunch of fitness influencers for that reason. My motivation got way better once I stopped comparing myself to edited highlight reels.

Real transformations usually happen after hundreds of workouts, not 90 days. Just keep eating right, training hard, and let time do its thing.
