Comparison is killing my gym joy - how do you stay in your own lane?
Comparison is killing my gym joy - how do you stay in your own lane?
I keep comparing myself to stronger, bigger people at the gym and online, and it's draining all the enjoyment out of lifting. How do you stay focused on your own progress without the constant comparison spiral?

Compare yourself to last month's you, full stop. That's the only honest comparison - everyone else has different genetics, years in, recovery and life. Your only competition is who you were. Track your own lifts and the comparison loses its grip.

Tracking my own progress instead of scanning everyone else - that's a good anchor.

It reframes the whole thing. When your own numbers are climbing, what the guy next to you lifts becomes irrelevant.

Social media is the worst offender - you're comparing your behind-the-scenes to everyone's highlight reel, often enhanced and filtered. Mute the accounts that make you feel bad. Curate your feed to inspire, not deflate.

Remember the strong people you envy were once beginners getting humbled too. You're seeing their chapter 20 and comparing it to your chapter 2. Same book, different page. Keep writing yours.

Honestly, talking to those 'intimidating' strong people helps - most are friendly and remember struggling. The comparison monster shrinks when they become real humans who'll happily spot you and cheer you on.

That's a really healthy reframe - chapter 2 vs chapter 20. Tracking my own lifts, curating my feed, and remembering everyone started somewhere. Thank you, genuinely needed this today.
