How often should you actually deload? Feeling beat up after 8 weeks straight
Eight weeks of hard training and everything aches, sleep's worse, lifts stalling. I never deload because it feels like wasted time. How do you all decide when to pull back, and what does your deload actually look like?

What you just described - aches, bad sleep, stalled lifts - IS the signal. You don't need a calendar, your body told you. A deload isn't wasted time, it's what lets the previous 8 weeks actually turn into gains.

So it's more by feel than a fixed schedule?

Both work. Some run a planned deload every 4-8 weeks, others autoregulate by symptoms. If you've never deloaded and feel wrecked, you've earned one now regardless of schedule.

My deload: same exercises, ~60% of normal volume, weights a bit lighter, nothing near failure. One easy week. I come back stronger basically every time, which converted me from a deload skeptic.

Sleep getting worse is the big tell for me. That's systemic fatigue, not just sore muscles. When sleep tanks I take the foot off the gas for a week, full stop.

Sleep's definitely been rough. Okay, I'm convinced. Lighter week it is.
