Is Your Strength Program Too Complicated for Real Progress? 🏋️‍♂️📊

Post by Ernesto Inestroza »

I've been looking at my training lately and wondering if I'm overthinking the whole strength game. Between tracking RPE, testing different splits, adjusting weekly volume, and watching every new lifting tip online, it feels like there's always something else to optimize. 😅
I used to think a more advanced program automatically meant better gains, but sometimes I spend so much time tweaking the plan that I lose sight of the basics. I want to get stronger, keep my form solid, and actually see progress without turning every workout into a science project.
How do you find the balance between smart programming and keeping your training simple enough to stick with? 💪

I just follow my plan and stop overthinking every workout. 😂

My coach simplified my routine, and my squat finally started moving again. Sometimes less really is more.

I used to have six different variations for every lift in my notes app. Now I keep the big lifts consistent and use accessories to bring up weak points. It's easier to see what's improving when I'm not changing everything every week. 📈

I don't think a detailed program is automatically bad, especially if you're chasing a specific strength goal. The problem starts when you're constantly adjusting things before you've collected enough training data to know whether the plan works. I'd rather run a sensible program consistently than jump between routines every time I see a new technique online.

Too many max-out days wrecked my recovery. Now I leave a little in the tank and build up gradually. 😤

I train four days a week and keep my setup pretty straightforward: main lift, a couple of accessories, then I'm out. I write down my numbers and aim for small improvements instead of trying to crush every session. That approach fits my schedule and keeps me hungry to come back.

Not every session needs a PR. Clean reps and steady progress count too. 💪

Appreciate these perspectives! I think I've been chasing the perfect program instead of putting real effort into one decent plan. I'm going to track my lifts, pay attention to recovery, and stop changing things just because another routine looks exciting. 💯
