What’s Your Best Meet-Day Routine for Staying Locked In? 🏋️

Post by JRsilva09 »

Meet day can feel completely different from a normal training day. The gym is louder, there are lifters everywhere, flights are moving, warm-up rooms get packed, and adrenaline can make it easy to rush things. For me, the biggest key is having a routine that keeps me focused on my attempts, my warm-ups, and my own pace instead of getting caught up in what everyone else is lifting.
A solid meet-day routine usually comes down to simple things: getting there early, knowing the flight order, eating familiar foods, staying hydrated, timing warm-ups, keeping headphones on when needed, and having a clear plan for each attempt. The goal isn’t to feel zero nerves—it’s to use that energy without letting it control you. 🔥

I keep my meet morning almost boring on purpose. Same breakfast, same coffee, same warm-up playlist. 😎

My biggest rule is not changing anything on meet day. I eat foods I’ve already tested, keep my water intake steady, and avoid messing around with random pre-workout or supplements. Once I’m in the warm-up room, I just follow my planned jumps and focus on making each rep look like training.

That’s honestly the vibe I’m trying to build too. I used to get way too distracted watching other lifters and checking what everyone was opening with. Now I’m trying to treat the meet like another training session with heavier consequences—stick to the plan and execute.

I like having everything written down before I even walk into the venue. Attempts, warm-up weights, timing, food, water, even when I’m going to use the bathroom 😂. It sounds excessive, but when the meet gets hectic, having a checklist keeps me from making dumb decisions because I’m hyped.

For me, the key is staying warm without burning energy. I’ll move around, do a few light drills, then chill until it’s actually time to warm up. 🔥

I’ve learned that trying to match someone else’s intensity is a trap. Some dude might be pacing around like he’s about to break a world record while I’m sitting quietly eating rice cakes, but that doesn’t mean I need to change my approach. 😂 My job is to hit my attempts, not win the warm-up room.

I always have my handler remind me what the next step is because meet brain is REAL. 😅

Same here. I actually like having one person who knows my plan and can keep me from overthinking. If I miss something, I don’t want five people giving me five different opinions while I’m trying to get ready for the next lift.
