High Volume vs. Smart Volume: When Does More Training Start Hurting Your Progress? 💪🔥

Post by CAngel23 »

More sets, more reps, and longer gym sessions might feel like the fastest way to build muscle, but there's a point where adding more work starts doing more harm than good. 🏋️‍♂️ High training volume can help you grow when you recover well, but if every workout leaves you sore, your strength keeps dropping, and you're dragging yourself into the gym, it's probably time to rethink your approach.
Smart volume is about getting quality work in, choosing the right exercises, training close enough to failure, and giving your body enough time to recover. You don't need to destroy yourself every session to make progress. Sometimes cutting out junk volume and focusing on better execution can do more for your physique than adding another five sets.
What's your experience, gym crew? Are you growing better with high-volume workouts, or did you start seeing better gains after cutting back and training smarter? Let's talk real-world results. 💯

More sets don't automatically mean more gains. Train smart! 💪

I used to add extra sets whenever a muscle wasn't growing, but I was just piling on fatigue. Once I reduced the unnecessary work and focused on progressive overload, my workouts got better. 🔥

I think volume depends on the person. What works for someone training six days a week might be too much for someone with a physical job and five hours of sleep.

My chest started progressing when I stopped doing endless presses and flyes every session. I kept the important movements, pushed my working sets hard, and gave myself time to recover between workouts. Quality reps over just chasing a crazy pump.

If your numbers keep dropping and you're sore all week, that's a sign to look at your workload. More volume isn't always the answer.

Exactly! I feel like a lot of lifters confuse being exhausted with having a productive workout. If your form falls apart during those extra sets, you're probably getting less out of them than you think. I'd rather finish with quality work and come back stronger next session. 💯

I still like higher-volume training, especially for bodybuilding. The key for me is spreading the work across the week instead of cramming everything into one brutal session.
