The big appeal is sustainability. When you’re already training hard several days a week, adding more high-intensity cardio can sometimes make the whole week feel harder. Walking gives lifters another option for staying active while keeping the effort relatively easy. Whether someone is trying to stay lean, improve general fitness, or simply move more outside the gym, the question is whether daily steps are becoming the new go-to “extra cardio” for lifters.

For lifters, daily steps are becoming an easy way to add more activity without turning every workout into a cardio marathon. Instead of always jumping on the treadmill, stairmaster, or bike after lifting, getting more movement throughout the day can help keep activity levels high while being easier to fit around a serious strength-training schedule. A few walks before or after meals, taking the stairs, parking farther away, or simply spending less time sitting can quietly add thousands of steps.

I’ve honestly started treating my daily steps as part of my training instead of thinking of them as separate cardio. When I’m already lifting heavy several days a week, getting more walking in lets me stay active without piling a ton of extra fatigue onto my legs.

Steps are seriously underrated cardio.

I usually get most of mine from walking after meals and taking a few extra laps during the day. It doesn’t feel like a workout, but the movement definitely adds up.

Way easier on recovery than more hard cardio.
Re: Are Daily Steps Becoming the New “Extra Cardio” for Lifters? 🚶
I started aiming for 8–10K steps and noticed I was moving more consistently throughout the week. The biggest thing is that walking doesn’t leave me smoked before my next lifting session.

That’s pretty much why I started looking at steps differently. I already get plenty of intensity from lifting, so adding more low-intensity movement seems like a smarter way to increase activity without constantly beating up my recovery. A couple walks throughout the day can add up without feeling like another workout.

I’d take walking over forced cardio any day.

Especially during a cut, steps make a lot of sense for me. I can stay active and keep moving without feeling like I need another exhausting session after lifting.
