Squats are probably my biggest form challenge. Some days everything feels locked in, and other days the same weight feels completely different. I’ve learned that warm-ups are useful for checking how my movement feels before I start loading the bar.

I use the mirror sometimes, but I trust video more for certain movements because I can actually see what’s happening instead of trying to judge my position while lifting.

Honestly, I used to be way too obsessed with weight on the bar. Now I care more about getting repeatable reps. If I can do the same movement pattern over and over without turning it into a circus act, that feels like a better workout to me.

The exercise that exposed my form the most was the dumbbell shoulder press. I kept leaning back as the weights got heavier without even noticing it. Dropping the weight and fixing my position made the movement much harder—but also much cleaner.

I think fatigue is where form really gets tested. Anybody can make the first few reps look good when they’re fresh; maintaining control when you’re breathing hard and the muscles are burning is the real challenge.

I’ve been trying to leave my ego at the door lately

. If I have to swing the weight or cut the range of motion just to finish the set, I know it’s time to back off.

One thing that helped me a lot was having someone watch just one or two working sets instead of trying to analyze my entire workout. A quick form cue can completely change how an exercise feels. Sometimes you don’t need more weight—you just need a better setup.
