Bulking Isn't Just About Eating More
Bulking Isn't Just About Eating More
I used to think bulking meant eating anything and everything as long as the scale was going up. It worked for a while but I also gained way more fat than I expected and felt sluggish most of the time. Once I started paying attention to my protein, carbsand overall calories instead of just stuffing myself my progress looked much cleaner meal prepping also made a huge difference because I wasn't guessing what to eat every day i had more energy in the gym recovered better and didn't feel guilty after every meal. Looking back a controlled bulk gave me much better results than a dirty bulk ever did.

Been there
dirty bulk sounded fun until I had to lose all that extra fat.
Re: Bulking Isn't Just About Eating More
One thing that helped me was aiming for a small calorie surplus instead of eating everything in sight. Strength kept going up but I felt much better during training and recovery compared to my old dirty bulk.
Re: Bulking Isn't Just About Eating More
I think patience is what separates a good bulk from a bad one. Gaining muscle takes time nd trying to rush it by eating everything usually creates more problems than benefits.Kimxe wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2026 4:51 am I used to think bulking meant eating anything and everything as long as the scale was going up. One thing I'd add is not to be afraid of carbs. Timing a good portion of your carbs around your workouts can really help with training intensity and recovery.

Dirty bulking sounded fun at first but I ended up feeling tired after most meals. Eating balanced meals with enough carbs before training made a huge difference in both performance and focus.
Re: Bulking Isn't Just About Eating More
A controlled bulk also made cutting much easier later on I had less fat to lose so I was able to keep more of my strength while leaning out.

Re: Bulking Isn't Just About Eating More
Protein was the biggest game changer for me and once I consistently hit my daily target recovery improved and I wasn't nearly as sore between workouts

Re: Bulking Isn't Just About Eating More
I found that weighing myself once or twice a week helped keep my bulk on track and d if the weight started climbing too fast I'd make small adjustments before things got out of hand.
Re: Bulking Isn't Just About Eating More
Meal prepping changed everything for me too. Having meals ready meant I was much less likely to grab fast food and hitting my protein goal became almost automatic.
