How do you stay disciplined when motivation completely disappears?

Motivation is gone this month and I'm white-knuckling every session. What actually keeps you going when you feel nothing? Looking for real strategies, not 'just be disciplined' - that's the thing I'm struggling to summon.

Make it a non-negotiable appointment, not a motivation-dependent choice. Same days, same time, no debate. I don't decide whether to train any more than I decide whether to go to work. Removing the daily decision removed the reliance on motivation entirely.

My rule: I only have to do the warmup. Once I've started, I almost always finish. Motivation isn't needed to start a warmup, and the workout takes care of itself from there. Lower the bar to entry.

The warmup trick keeps coming up - I'll genuinely try it.

Discipline is just a habit repeated long enough that skipping feels worse than going. The flat patches are normal; push through a few and the habit carries you. Don't quit during a low - that's when the habit is being forged.

Remove friction - bag packed the night before, gym clothes ready, a session plan so you never stand around lost. Every obstacle you delete is one less excuse your tired brain can grab. Make showing up the path of least resistance.

And forgive the off days without spiralling. One skipped session is nothing; people quit because a miss makes them feel like a failure and they bin the whole thing. Never miss twice - that single rule outlasts any motivation.

That 'never miss twice' line is sticking with me. Appointment, warmup-only rule, packed bag, no spiralling. That's a real plan. Thanks all.
