Cutting journal week 6 - progress stalled and I'm talking myself through it

Six weeks into my cut, lost steadily until this week - scale hasn't budged in 8 days and I'm frustrated. Journaling it partly to vent and partly to not do anything stupid like slashing calories to nothing. Talk me off the ledge.

Step away from the ledge - an 8-day stall mid-cut is completely normal, not a failure. Water retention, glycogen, hormones and just life mask fat loss all the time. Do not crash your calories. Hold the line, sleep, and the whoosh usually comes.

The 'whoosh' - I've heard people mention that. So the fat might already be gone and just hidden by water?

Frequently, yes. You drop fat but cells hold water in its place for a bit, then release it suddenly and the scale drops 'overnight'. Patience beats panic every time here.

Check the non-scale stuff - waist measurement, photos, how your clothes fit, strength in the gym. The scale is one noisy data point. I've had stalls where the tape kept moving even as the scale sulked.

Good call, I've been staring at the scale and ignoring everything else. Waist is actually down half an inch.

There's your answer - you're still leaning out, the scale's just lagging. Keep going exactly as you are.

Also worth a diet break if you've been in a deficit hard for 6+ weeks - a few days at maintenance can reset hormones and water and often breaks a stall when you return. Not mandatory, but an option that isn't 'eat less'.

Okay, genuinely talked off the ledge. Waist down, strength fine, just water. Holding calories, maybe a short diet break next week. Thanks for stopping me doing something daft.
