Training While Feeling Under the Weather — Push Through or Chill?
Training While Feeling Under the Weather — Push Through or Chill?
Woke up with a light cold today not bedridden or anything, just that annoying sore throat and low energy. I’m debating whether to still hit a quick workout or take the day off completely. What do you all usually do when you’re a bit sick but not totally knocked out?

If it’s just a mild cold, I still train but I lower the intensity. Anything chest-related feels awful when congested though.

Yeah that’s what I’m scared of… hitting a session and feeling worse after.Jett-Muscle wrote: ↑Wed Nov 19, 2025 11:58 am If it’s just a mild cold, I still train but I lower the intensity. Anything chest-related feels awful when congested though.

Bro if it’s above the neck (stuffy nose, sore throat), I usually go. If it’s below the neck (chest, fever), I’m home. Simple rule that’s worked for years.

Honestly, taking 1–2 days off won’t kill your gains. Training while sick usually just drags out recovery and you end up losing more time. I’d rest.

I do light cardio on days like that. Nothing heavy. Just enough to get blood flowing and feel human again.

Might actually try that instead of a full lift. Good idea.

I’m the opposite if I’m even 5% sick, I shut everything down. I’d rather bounce back fast than feel half-dead for a week.

Depends on the goal. If you’re in prep, people push through almost anything. If you’re off-season, rest. No point forcing it.

Keep in mind your immune system is already taxed. Heavy lifting also taxes it. Sometimes that combo makes you sicker.
