First meet nerves hit different. You can crush your lifts in the gym for months, but stepping onto the platform with judges watching, commands to follow, and a crowd around you can make everything feel different. Even experienced lifters get those butterflies when the weight gets serious.

What really helps is having a game plan and sticking to it. A solid warm-up, realistic attempts, good music, and a coach who keeps you focused can make meet day feel much more manageable. You don't need to feel fearless to perform well; sometimes you just need to trust your training and take one lift at a time.
What's your go-to strategy when the nerves kick in before a big lift? Do you hype yourself up, stay quiet, or lean on your training partners? Let's hear what works on meet day!

I kept my opener manageable and focused on getting a clean lift on the board. That first successful attempt gave me a nice confidence boost.

My coach helped me the most at my first meet because I was overthinking every attempt. He kept reminding me to trust my training, follow my cues, and stop worrying about what other lifters were hitting. Once I focused on my own game, everything felt smoother.

That's real advice!

Sometimes you need someone in your corner to remind you that the hard work is already done. Just trust the process.

I stopped comparing totals and focused on my own lifts.

I used to get so hyped before heavy squats that I'd rush my walkout and lose my brace. At my first meet, I learned to slow down, take a breath, and follow the same setup routine I use in training. That small change helped me feel way more in control.

Having my training partner there made a big difference. A quick pep talk before my deadlift helped me stop second-guessing myself and focus on pulling the weight.

Deep breaths between attempts. Simple but effective.

l like this because nerves don't always disappear, even wheyou've competed before. The goal is to keep them from messing with your technique or making you change your attempts at the last minute. Stay focused, listen to your coach, and take each lift as it comes.
