Raw Powerlifting Is Growing β€” Are More Lifters Ready to Compete? 🔥

Raw powerlifting is getting more attention from everyday gym lifters, and it's easy to see why. πŸ‹οΈβ€β™‚οΈ All you really need to get started is consistent training, solid technique, a good plan, and the willingness to test yourself on the platform. But lifting heavy in your regular gym and competing under official rules are two different experiences.
Between squat depth, paused bench commands, deadlift lockouts, attempt selection, and meet-day nerves, there's a lot to learn beyond just adding more plates. Some lifters are ready to compete now, while others keep waiting until their numbers look impressive enough.
The real question is whether more lifters should stop waiting for the β€œperfect time” and try a local meet, or spend more time building their strength and technique first. What's your take, USA powerlifting crew? Are you planning your first meet, already competing, or still building your total? πŸ’ͺπŸ”₯

Long I think a lot of lifters are more ready than they realize, but they keep comparing themselves to people pulling huge numbers online. Your first meet doesn't have to be about winning a medal or setting records. Learn the commands, pick realistic attempts, and get comfortable being judged on your lifts. That experience alone can change how you train afterward.

Medium I'm down for more people competing, but technique has to come first. A gym PR doesn't mean much if your squat gets called for depth every time. πŸ˜‚

Long That's exactly why I think local meets deserve more attention. You get to see regular lifters, learn how meet day actually works, and realize you don't need an elite total to belong there. I'd rather see someone compete, learn from a few missed attempts, and come back stronger than spend years waiting for the perfect numbers. πŸ”₯

Medium Attempt selection is huge. Open with something you know you can hit, build momentum, and save the bigger swing for your third attempt.

Long Social media makes powerlifting look intimidating because we mostly see huge totals and PR clips. Local meets have lifters at all levels, and everyone starts somewhere. πŸ’ͺ

Medium I'm still working toward my first meet. My bench setup and pause are getting more consistent, but I've got some work to do before I'm comfortable under commands.
