PPL, Upper/Lower, or Full Body—What’s Giving You the Best Results? 🏋️♂️🔥

When it comes to building muscle, getting stronger, and making consistent progress, everyone seems to have a different training split that works for them. Some lifters swear by Push/Pull/Legs (PPL) for higher training volume, while others prefer Upper/Lower because it gives them a solid balance between recovery and performance. Full Body is also getting plenty of love, especially from busy lifters who want to hit each muscle group multiple times a week without living in the gym.

There’s no one-size-fits-all program. Your schedule, training experience, recovery, exercise selection, and ability to push hard in the gym all play a role. Whether you're chasing hypertrophy, strength gains, or a more aesthetic physique, the real question is which split helps you stay consistent and progress over time. What training split is actually giving you the best results, and what makes it work for your lifestyle?

I’ve been running Upper/Lower 4 days a week, and honestly, it’s been a game changer for my recovery. I get enough volume without feeling beat up by Friday.

PPL has been my go-to for a couple years now. I like having dedicated days for each muscle group because I can focus on pushing my working sets hard without rushing through the session.

I’ve bounced between all three splits, but lately I’ve been paying more attention to how I recover rather than just how many days I can train. PPL feels great when my schedule is open, but Full Body has been surprisingly effective during busy weeks. The biggest thing I’ve noticed is that a split only works if I can consistently hit quality sets and keep progressing.

Full Body 3x a week is seriously underrated. I’m getting stronger on my compounds and still have energy for the rest of my life outside the gym.

I’m currently running PPL six days a week, and the extra frequency has been solid for hypertrophy. I keep an eye on fatigue, though, because more gym days don’t automatically mean better gains. If my performance starts dropping, I adjust the volume instead of forcing every session.

Upper/Lower is the sweet spot for me. Four days, solid recovery, and enough flexibility to fit around work.

That’s what I like about Upper/Lower too. You can train hard without needing to be in the gym six days every week. I’ve also noticed that exercise selection matters a lot—getting stronger on presses, rows, squats, and hinges while managing fatigue makes a bigger difference than constantly switching programs. Curious how everyone is balancing training volume with recovery right now.

I switched from PPL to Full Body after my work schedule got hectic, and I’m honestly enjoying it more than expected. Hitting each muscle several times a week keeps me consistent, and I don’t feel like I’m missing an entire body part if I have to skip a day.

PPL works best for me because I enjoy spending more time on individual muscle groups. Chest and shoulders get their own attention, back days are intense, and leg day is always a grind.

As long as I’m recovering and progressing, I don’t worry too much about what split is trending.
