This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for. I think it's easy to get caught up in either "train harder" or "recover more," when the answer probably depends on where your weak point actually is. Sometimes the program isn't the problem — it's fatigue, technique, nutrition, or simply not giving the current plan enough time.

Consistency beats everything for me. Nothing exciting, just showing up and doing the work.

I changed from percentage-based training to using RPE more often this year, and it's been a game changer. If I'm feeling great, I can push the top set. If work was rough and I slept badly, I don't have to force a number that clearly isn't there. That flexibility has helped me train hard without constantly feeling beat up.

My squat finally moved when I stopped chasing squat PRs every week.

I think the biggest mistake is assuming more intensity automatically means more progress. I spent months grinding heavy reps that probably weren't necessary. Now I keep the really hard work limited, get enough quality volume, and pay more attention to whether I'm recovering between sessions. My workouts aren't as dramatic, but my strength trend is much better.

For me it's been nutrition plus training consistency. Once I stopped randomly changing programs every few weeks and actually ate enough to support training, everything started moving in the right direction. Nothing fancy — just enough calories, plenty of protein, and sticking with the plan.

Honestly, all three matter.
Volume gives me the work capacity, intensity keeps me comfortable with heavier weights, and recovery lets me actually adapt to the training. If one of those is completely out of balance, my lifts usually tell me pretty quickly. These days I'm much more interested in having six good months of training than having one insane workout.
