I keep an eye on my overall fatigue. If I'm sleeping poorly, feeling unusually beat up, and my motivation is tanking, I don't force a brutal workout just because it's written on the schedule.
Sometimes I'll cut the volume down and call it a win. 👍

One thing that helped me was stopping the habit of taking every set to failure.
I still train hard, but I leave a little in the tank on most working sets. I feel like I recover better and can bring more intensity when it actually matters.

For me, it's about having a plan instead of just winging it. I’ll have a couple of genuinely hard sessions during the week, keep the other workouts more controlled, and schedule recovery days ahead of time. That keeps me progressing without feeling like I’m constantly beat up.

I also pay attention to little aches before they become bigger problems. If something feels off, I’ll modify the exercise or reduce the load instead of trying to “tough it out.” 💯

The biggest lesson I've learned is that more isn't always better.
I made great progress when I trained hard, but I made even better progress when I finally learned how to recover. Good sleep, enough food, hydration, rest days, and sensible programming have kept me much more consistent than trying to PR every session.

I think the sweet spot is training hard enough to challenge yourself without making every workout a survival test 😂. I want to leave the gym feeling like I did real work, but I also want to be capable of coming back a day or two later and performing well. For me, that means adjusting intensity based on how I'm feeling, getting plenty of sleep, eating enough, staying hydrated, and taking rest seriously. Long-term consistency beats a few crazy workouts every time. 💪🔥
