Are More Gym Lifters Turning Their Regular Training Into Powerlifting?
Re: Are More Gym Lifters Turning Their Regular Training Into Powerlifting?
Exactly. I also like that it gives people something measurable to work toward. You might not care about competing, but adding 20 pounds to your squat over several months feels pretty damn good when you know you earned every pound.

I still prefer bodybuilding, honestly.

I’ve blended both for years. I’ll push my main compound lifts with lower reps and longer rest, then switch gears and chase the pump with higher-rep accessory work. Best of both worlds for me.

The only thing I’d caution against is copying advanced powerlifting programs without understanding the recovery demands. What works for someone preparing for a meet isn’t automatically the smartest setup for somebody lifting four days a week while working a full-time job.

I think hybrid training is where a lot of regular lifters are heading. Get stronger on the big lifts, build muscle with smart accessory work, stay athletic, and don’t let a spreadsheet completely dictate whether you’re enjoying your time in the gym.
