🏠 Compact Home Gym or Full Garage Gym—Which Setup Works Better?
Re: 🏠 Compact Home Gym or Full Garage Gym—Which Setup Works Better?
Garage gym all the way. I’ve slowly built mine over a few years instead of buying everything at once, and that made a huge difference financially. Now I’ve got a power rack, cable setup, dumbbells, specialty bars, and enough plates to train pretty much anything I want.

I like that approach—building it over time instead of trying to create a full commercial gym overnight. I’m starting to think a smaller setup with the essentials is the better move, then adding equipment when I actually feel like my training is limited.

Adjustable dumbbells are a game changer for small spaces.

I’ve got a pretty basic home gym and honestly don’t feel like I’m missing much. Rack, bench, barbell, plates, adjustable dumbbells, and a few bands cover my strength work and most of my hypertrophy training, so I’d rather spend the extra money on good food and recovery.

Full garage gym if you’re serious about bodybuilding. Having a cable station, leg equipment, and different handles makes it way easier to get quality volume without constantly improvising exercises. That said, a compact setup can absolutely build a strong physique if you know how to train.

I’d start compact and upgrade as your training demands it. You can always add equipment later, but you can’t magically make a crowded garage bigger.
